Plovdiv-based bicycle manufacturer MaxCom has announced the construction of a new plant in partnership with Austrian giant Pierer Group, a leading manufacturer of motorcycles – part of which are KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas. This investment will put the Bulgarian manufacturer at the forefront of the niche for the production of electric bicycles in the EU.

“Maxcom’s CEO said he expects [the company’s] exports to reach 5 billion euros over the next 10 years,” said Economy Minister Kiril Petkov. “If even 15% of the companies in Bulgaria achieve this success, the country’s economy will double … this is the model for Bulgaria and we see it clearly here” he added.

The investment foresees the construction of a factory for electric bicycles and other two-wheeled electric vehicles in Plovdiv, which will give a strong boost to both the local economy and the new Bulgarian industry.
