New car sales in EU Member States have slumped to their lowest level in almost 30 years amid a shortage of auto parts in the first half of 2022, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) published by the dpa. In Bulgaria, 28,684 new cars were registered last year, up 16.9% from 24,537 in 2021 – the highest sales growth among all Member States.

Sales in Bulgaria also increased on a monthly basis. In December 2022, 2,009 new cars were registered in Bulgaria, compared to 1,780 in the same month of 2021.

Last year, 9.26 million new cars were registered in the EU, down 4.6% from 2021.

Germany was the only large market for new cars in the EU, which saw an increase in sales in 2022 (+1.1%).
